Bechtel Telecommunications chose Bay State Design, Inc. for the design of the expansion and upgrade to the At&T Wireless Services 3rd Generation Upgrade Project for the Boston Region. BSD has designed 396 sites for this project. GSM (Global Systems for Mobile Communications) is being overlaid onto AT&T's existing wireless network. This technology upgrade will vastly improve mobile/voicemail service and provide email and internet access through the use of hand-held devices. The design work involves structural upgrades to existing equipment platforms, electrical upgrades, running additional coax cable, and antenna additions and replacements, as well as tower analysis and structural reinforcing as required. Bechtel chose Bay Sate Design because of its experience in managing the design of large scale, fast track, and multi-site projects.
